Vampire Survivors a dying trend

butPredicted by Chris Zukowski quite a while back in 2023 where he discussed in a blog post that the genre is on its last legs. It was a hot genre but I do think only 1-2 other games can make money off this genre.

Some time around Q2 2024 he has written up a blog post on what kinds of games were doing well

The Generes I Picked up

Crafty Simulation Builders (Some sort of City Builder Management Game, Survivor Games Included)

Horror Games, this still seems to be a staple of indie games.

Roguelike Deckbuilders (Slay the Spire) have not played much of these but they do look fun but hard to create.

So Whats Hot for 2025

He has written up a new blog post on what to focus on for the next year, which are what he calls Crafty Simulation Builders.

Examples are Which is City Builder like games or Farming Sims. Multiplayer Games

One game that is doing that is David Whele New Game We Harvest Shadows which is a horror farming Sim

Another Fad Is IDLE Games, I only have a vague experence with this playing on mobile and not steam but I am not sure what is “fun” of these auto battlers.

Still Making Project Sun and Moon

I am Still going to finish up my Vampire Survivors Like game as it’s the first one of a larger game that I am making despite what trends are happening. This is my first game I do hope to find an audience for it if not its still a good rep-exercise to get things finished.

I may pivot and put some elements of Deck Building and Survivor like themes into my game. Oh well we will see how in 2025.
