Dev Log #1

This year I started a new game project sometime around May 2024 doing it part time. But have not documented anything until now in this post I feel that I want to put things in writing to remember what I was making.

Intro

Previous Mood board of Ideas for Project Oni but it got shelved

I was trying to make some other games but it failed to materialized due to life events and work plus I kept changing engines, ideas and various goals, that got me distracted and never full progress beyond mood boards and simple protoypes..

The plan is to simplify.

I was having ambitions after completing 2 small games but realised the new ones I was trying to design, they were too big in scope to make and would require more funding

As this is the next step I am still making it a bit more than an endless runner or platformer but not to difficult to complete.

I want to keep it with no story and focus on gameplay, but it will still follow the main things needed in a game with Start and Options menu, Selections and loading different game levels, unlike the previous little games I made where its just 1 level.

Action Roguelike

The genre I am trying out is Action Roguelite (Roguelikes). This made popular by vampire survivors. Something I feel a little bit harder than Endelss Runners.

Not sure 🤔 if the steam audience would want other vampire survivor like games. Looks like many are coming out. Will be surveying the various titles and see how they turned out.

Research

Right now I have been looking at simple arcade and mobile games to try and get a feel for action Roguelikes. I am still trying to figure out the world and atmosphere but it’s nothing too serious.
