Has nintendo made it again or just an upgrade

Developer Thoughts

Switch 2 could be good for AA or Indie Games I do think Switch 1 had a lot of indie games I have never applied or tried devloping for it but it is something I hope Nintendo can do to get more devs onboard. Probably would sell an indie game digitally rather than physical. Graphics Wise it might look like AA Games so a game being made for switch 2 will costs less than Xbox S|X or PS5.

I think its has potential to carry on the legacy of the Switch 1 not sure if the consumers will bite though with the new way games are distributed. I do think the Joy Con 2 has potential for newer game types since you can make it a mouse. Camera and Game Chat might be interesting for multiplayer games

Nintendo also seems keen to expand beyound Japan and UK, US, hope they put SG and Asia as a region with more focus for the Switch 2. There is already an expansion into Asia in places like Thailand and China but the greater Asia region outside of Japan favors PC and Mobile so yet to be seen about it.

Some not so Good Parts from the announcements:

Switch 2 Game price Increase to $80 USD Digital Cheaper than Physical?

Reactions online are not so good but I do think Nintendo has run their simulations with tarriffs incoming.

Physical Cheaper than Digital?

$150 more than Switch at launch:
At $449, the Switch 2 will launch at a significant premium compared to its predecessor ($299). We currently anticipate strong early adoption through 2025 and 2026, driven by pent-up demand for a new Nintendo console and first party IP, but note that it may not sell faster than the original Switch after the first 2-3 years due to the higher cost of the console and increasing satisfaction among gamers with existing gaming platforms and live service titles.

Physical Games going Away replaced with Key Cards

Game Chat seems interesting and the Game Key Cards I beleive just what may or may not put physical media away someday.

I do think nintendo is trying to have an inbetween unlink xbox and ps which are slowly trending to go all digital.

Nintendo’s Switch 2 Is Exactly What We Expected | Rafael Brown

The Nintendo Switch 2 is exactly what it should be, more of the same, but better, faster, smoother, bigger. I just need it OLED. Boring and predictable is not bad if the choices that are boring and predictable are right. Bring on boring, because the games won't be. No audience was ever pissed off at being given exactly what they wanted. Nintendo merging their console and handheld lines with the Switch made so much sense. The Switch 1 to the Switch 2 makes even more sense. It is basically Nintendo saying the console will have as much rendering power as a mobile device so it can be handheld because they don't care about having the fastest rendering console. Nintendo stepped out of the console wars when they figured out how to take the promise of the WiiU and make it real. Now what everyone wants is a Switch with more RAM, faster processing, and the ability to play all our Switch games along with new stuff. And that is the Switch 2. But can I wait for the Switch 2 OLED? Nintendo has learned that Microsoft was right about two things with Xbox. Have backwards compatibility (software and/or hardware emulation) and have one forever Cloud account. The latter is what Microsoft learned from Apple iTunes and Steam. I never lose my Steam purchases. So why should I lose my Nintendo purchases every gen? Compatibility and Cloud accounts shifted from optional to required, in the last five years. This is where Valve and Apple have influenced consoles. I've had a Steam account since 2004. I have had an Apple iTunes account since 2003. And an Apple App store account since 2007. Now with Valve's Steam I have had one continuous active account for 20 years. Starting with Half-Life 2, everything purchased stayed on there, forever When I get a Switch 2, I want to do the same thing I did with my XSX, login to my account and have all my games appear. I wanted this with my PS5. It doesn't quite work. With my XSX, I have original Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, & Xbox Series X/S titles all together. With my Switch 2 I want all my Switch titles, but also every Classic title immediately backwards compatible and working. If I buy an N64 Classic title I don't want to buy it every generation. I want to buy it once and have it ALWAYS work. Yes I'm a developer and I know the complications, but when I buy games, I'M A GAME CONSUMER. And I want to be catered to when a game platform takes my money. Just make the shit work. I have your device, I'm upgrading to the next device. Bring over everything I purchased last time. You have a sticky platform if I have all my inventory from day one. I will stay on if you honor my prior purchases. If you don't, then you don't have a competent cloud platform. That's what a gamer thinks. Any gamer. Apple showed us how it works. Then Valve. Then Microsoft. Now Sony and Nintendo get your shit together. Do the hard work of emulation. And make EVERYTHING work. On PS5, I want my PS3 library. On Switch 2, I want my N64 & 3DS. Make it Happen. #gamedev

🔎Interesting Finds Nintendo Expansion into Asia MENA

Will Singapore be recognised as a region

Expansion in Asia & MENA

From Niko Partners: Switch 2 Report

Expansion in Asia & MENA:

Nintendo has been steadily increasing its presence in Asia (excl. Japan) & MENA over the past few years, including new partnerships to distribute the console in Saudi Arabia and Thailand, a new subsidiary in Chinese Taipei, and full entry into the mainland China market via Tencent. While eShop availability remains inconsistent across some markets, Nintendo’s transmedia initiatives (films, merchandise, parks) are expanding IP touchpoints in all markets and increasing the appeal of Nintendo’s first party titles, which can only be played on its hardware. Asia & MENA is home to a growing middle class and increased entertainment consumption, positioning the regions as key growth markets for Nintendo. The company has already seen strong growth in markets like China and South Korea with Switch.

In Asia & MENA, younger digital native audiences predominantly favor mobile and PC as their main platforms for gaming. Switch 2 sales in these regions will hinge on its ability to act as a complementary platform, supported by popular first- and third-party IP, localized services, and regional pricing. While we do see increased support across all three points, the high price of the console at launch may limit early adoption in these regions given its offering and pricing is now in line with the PS5 and mid-range PCs. According to Niko’s 2024 Gamer Behavior & Market Insights Reports, PlayStation is the leading console brand by market share in Asia excluding Japan.
